Town Council Meeting Tonight!

Tonight’s town council meeting is especially important because of the agenda the council will be undertaking. The May-14-2013-Town-Council-Packet has host of proposed ideas. One of the most prolific of these proposals is whether or not the council majority will join the Democratic members already in support of our Library. The proposal is as follows:

Consideration of a resolution authorizing an appropriation of $2,600,000 for the expansion of the Tolland Public Library and the financing of said appropriation by the issuance of general obligation bonds of the Town and notes in anticipation of such bonds in an amount not to exceed $2,600,000, or so much as may be necessary after deducting grants as well as establishing a date for a referendum and the setting of a public hearing thereon for May 28, 2013.

The proposed project has several state level grants that are applicable to the reduction of this project’s price and would take away a majority of the cost to our debt service. However, even if the town were to bond the cost in full, the town’s debt service (as indicated by the town manager) will still be in the decline moving forward, and we wll maintain our high-level credit rating.

If you are a Democrat, Independent, or Republican who supports a Tolland Library that grows with it’s population and continues to be a source of community involvement/education, please come out to tonight’s meeting and speak out with us in support of this measure. The Tolland Library deserves a vote, and the people of Tolland deserve a vote.
